Key Accountabilities
  • Oversee the development, promotion and implementation of methodologies, protocols and processes for large-scale genomic data research and analysis to ensure the highest-quality research outcomes, including evaluation of new methods, techniques and protocols to determine feasibility prior to adoption
  • Develop and oversee the implementation of sound clinical bio-informatics strategies, ensuring adoption of best practices in data analysis and clinical genome-wide sequencing data interpretation, bio-repository operations (i.e., collection, processing, storing and distribution of bio samples), and information technology security
  • Propose recommendation on program priorities (e.g., type of preventive healthcare programs and focus on specific rare diseases in developing precision medicine) based upon key insights derived from the large-scale genomic research studies, and identify new opportunities for the Program based on advancement in the genomic research and technologies
  • Act as an advisor on issues related to psychosocial, ethical and policy implications of genetics research, leveraging appropriate scientific literatures as well as best practices in the industry to facilitate legislations and policies development for genomic programs (including policies for data management and security)
  • Act as an internal consultant to facilitate genomic studies (led by the Strategic Program Management section), provide input for evaluation on technologies for the Program and other decisions requiring technical insights
  • Lead the development of reports related to accomplishments and progress in the clinical research and application of the genomic research findings and present them to the key stakeholders such as the Chairman of ADEO, the UAE Genome Council and any of the members as necessary, highlighting risks and proposing mitigation plans
  • Lead technical training content development discussions and guide the development of graduate programs and training programs in the omics studies
Preferred Experience And Exposure
  • Possess scientific expertise in human genomics, functional genomics, population / statistical genetics and bioinformatics. Experience in large-scale genomic data analysis
  • Demonstrated understanding in genomic research methodologies, protocols and techniques
  • Understand bioinformatics and its application in genomic sciences and medicine
  • Strong communication skills in presenting research findings to audience of all levels and backgrounds
  • Experience in managing stakeholders of varying profiles and levels in the scientific communities
